Volume, put back where it went
Dermal fillers are injectable gels made of hyaluronic acid, a substance already present in your body. Placed under the skin, they add volume, smooth out folds and restore fullness — plumping lips, supporting cheeks, filling under-eye hollows and softening the lines that come with lost structure.
Ageing in the face is not only about skin. Fat pads shrink, bone changes shape, and support disappears from underneath, which is why a face can look tired even when the skin is in good condition. Filler addresses that support. Botox, by contrast, relaxes muscles so moving lines stop creasing. They solve different problems and are often used together.
Placement is everything, and this is where a surgeon’s training matters. The face has arteries running in predictable places, and filler in the wrong plane causes real harm. Dr. Khushal Gangwani is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, so the anatomy under the needle is familiar territory rather than something learnt on a weekend course.
Where we treat
- LipsDefinition, hydration or a little more fullness. Our default is subtle — lips that suit your face rather than announce themselves.
- CheeksRestoring mid-face support, which lifts the area above and softens the folds below.
- Under-eye hollowsFilling tear troughs that make you look tired however well you slept. A delicate area, assessed carefully, because not every hollow suits filler.
- Nasolabial foldsThe lines from nose to mouth, softened by restoring support rather than filling the crease itself.
- Chin and jawlineDefinition and balance, which often changes a profile more than treating the face front-on.
- TemplesHollowing at the temples, which quietly ages the upper face and is easy to overlook.
Not suitable if you have an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products, a bleeding disorder, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell us about blood thinners, autoimmune conditions, and any filler you have had before — including permanent or unknown filler, which changes what can safely be done.
How it works
-
Assessment
We look at your whole face rather than the part you point at. Often the area that bothers you is a symptom of volume lost somewhere else, and treating the cause gives a better result than filling the complaint.
-
Planning volume
How much product, and where. A full face generally takes two to three millilitres depending on the condition, and we would rather do less and review than overfill and have you regret it.
-
Numbing
Numbing cream, and most fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, so the discomfort drops quickly after the first entry point.
-
Injection
Product is placed in the correct plane with a needle or a blunt cannula, depending on the area, and moulded into position as it goes.
-
Immediate result
You see a change straight away, mixed in with swelling. Lips in particular swell markedly, which is normal and temporary.
-
Review
Judge the result at two weeks, once swelling has gone and the product has settled. If more is needed, that is the moment to add it.
Post-care instructions
These are the clinic’s own instructions, given after lip fillers and applicable to fillers generally.
- No hot drinks and no hot food immediately after the procedure.
- Swelling the next day is normal and can continue for three to four days.
- Do not treat the swelling phase as your final result. Patience is the main instruction.
- Avoid lipstick for two days after lip filler.
- Apply the antibacterial ointment we give you, twice a day for seven days.
- Bruising is normal. Arnica tablets help it clear faster.
- No kissing and no massaging the area for three to four days.
- Skip the gym, steam, sauna and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
- If the pain is unbearable after the procedure, contact the clinic.
Call the clinic immediately, not tomorrow, if you have severe or worsening pain, skin that turns white, grey or mottled, vision changes, or pain far from the injection site. These are rare, and they are the reason filler belongs with a doctor. Hyaluronic acid filler can also be dissolved with an enzyme if a result needs correcting — one of the reasons we use it.

Dermal filler FAQs
Will it look obvious?
Not if the amount and placement are right. Overfilled faces are the result of chasing volume rather than restoring it. We work in small amounts and review at two weeks, which is how results stay believable.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first and most fillers contain a local anaesthetic, so discomfort drops sharply after the first entry point. Lips are the most sensitive area.
How much filler will I need?
For a full face, generally two to three millilitres depending on the condition. A single area such as lips or a chin needs much less. We will tell you the amount at consultation rather than after starting.
How long does filler last?
Several months, and it varies by product, by area and by person. Areas that move constantly, such as lips, break it down faster than static areas such as cheeks.
Can it be reversed?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, so an unwanted result is correctable. This is a strong argument for hyaluronic acid over permanent fillers, which cannot be undone.
How long is the swelling?
Swelling appears the next day and can last three to four days, longest in the lips. Bruising is common. Judge your result at two weeks, not the morning after.
What is the difference between filler and Botox?
Filler adds volume to restore fullness or shape. Botox relaxes muscles so that lines made by movement stop creasing. Different problems, and many people benefit from both.
How long before a wedding should I have filler?
At least four to six weeks. That covers swelling and bruising, lets the product settle, and leaves room for a small adjustment if the result needs it.
