What It Is

Two treatments in one pass

MNRF stands for Micro-Needling Radiofrequency. Very fine needles create micro channels in the skin while radiofrequency energy is delivered through their tips, heating the deeper layers. That combination triggers collagen and elastin production at a depth creams and facials never reach.

It is the treatment of choice for acne scarring, because scars are a structural problem. A depressed scar is tethered tissue with lost volume beneath it — no amount of brightening or exfoliation will lift it. Rebuilding collagen under the scar is what changes its shape, and that takes a course of sessions spaced weeks apart while the skin remodels.

Because the energy is delivered below the surface rather than across it, MNRF is comparatively safe on Indian skin, where aggressive surface resurfacing can leave pigmentation behind. It still needs judgement: needle depth and energy are set for your skin and the area being treated.

Concerns

What it helps with

  • Acne scarsDepressed, pitted and rolling scars left behind after acne has settled. The main reason people book MNRF.
  • Open poresEnlarged pores across the cheeks and nose, tightened as the surrounding collagen rebuilds.
  • Skin laxityEarly slackness along the jaw and cheeks, where firming helps more than filling.
  • Fine lines and wrinklesTexture and crepiness, particularly on the lower face and neck.
  • Uneven textureSkin that feels rough or bumpy rather than looking discoloured.
  • Stretch marks and body scarsThe same principle applied away from the face, where scarring has changed the texture.

Not suitable if you have active acne breakouts or a skin infection in the area, open wounds, a tendency to keloid scarring, or if you are pregnant. Tell us if you are on isotretinoin or have taken it recently, if you have an implanted electrical device, or if you have had filler in the area. Active acne is treated first, then the scars.

The Session

How it works

  1. Assessment

We look at your scar type, because different scars respond differently, and check whether your acne is settled enough to start treating what it left behind.

  2. Numbing

Numbing cream goes on and is left to work for around half an hour. This part is not optional, and it is why the treatment is comfortable.

  3. Cleanse and cartridge

Skin is cleansed and a sterile single-use cartridge is fitted. Needle depth and energy are set for the area — shallower around the eyes, deeper over scarred cheeks.

  4. The passes

The handpiece is stamped across the area, section by section. You feel pressure and a warm prickle. Scarred areas may get a second, deeper pass.

  5. Soothe and protect

Cooling, a soothing serum and sunscreen. You will leave looking flushed, a little swollen, and with the skin feeling like mild sunburn.

  6. The course

Scars need a course, spaced weeks apart to let collagen remodel between sessions. We will give you a realistic number at consultation — and honest scarring work is measured in months, not weeks.

Aftercare

Post-care instructions

These are the clinic’s own instructions, given after microneedling, PRP, GFC and MNRF.

  • Apply the recovery cream for five nights.
  • Do not wash your face with tap water for 24 hours. Use bottled or filtered drinking water.
  • No face wash or cleanser for one day. Water only.
  • You can ice your face, but never put ice directly on the skin — wrap it in a clean cotton cloth or tissue first.
  • Sunscreen and moisturiser are a must during the day.
  • Take proper sun protection measures. A hat and a scarf if you are going outdoors.
  • Mild peeling is possible.
  • No makeup for a few days.
  • Redness can take up to five days to settle.
  • In case of anything unusual, contact the clinic.

What to expect: flushing and mild swelling on the day, settling over the following days. The change in scarring is gradual, because it depends on new collagen forming underneath, and it continues to improve for weeks after each session. Photographs taken at the start are the only reliable way to judge it.

Questions

MNRF FAQs

Does MNRF hurt?

Numbing cream is applied for around half an hour first, after which you feel pressure and a warm prickle rather than sharp pain. The skin feels like mild sunburn for the rest of the day.

How much downtime is there?

You will be flushed and slightly swollen on the day, and redness can take up to five days to settle. No makeup for a few days. Plan it away from anything you have to be photographed at.

How many sessions will I need for acne scars?

Scarring needs a course, spaced weeks apart so collagen can remodel in between. The number depends on how deep and how widespread the scarring is, and we will tell you at consultation rather than after your first session.

Will my scars disappear completely?

No. Scars improve — they become shallower, softer and less obvious under side lighting — but nobody can return the skin to how it was before the acne. Anyone promising complete removal is selling you something else.

Is it safe on Indian skin?

Comparatively yes, because the energy is delivered beneath the surface rather than resurfacing it, which lowers the risk of pigmentation afterwards. Needle depth and energy are still set for your skin, and sun protection afterwards matters.

Can I have MNRF while I still have acne?

Not over active breakouts. Treating inflamed skin risks spreading infection and worsening marks. We settle the acne first, then treat the scarring, which is the right order even if it feels slow.

How is MNRF different from regular microneedling?

Plain microneedling makes channels in the skin and relies on that injury alone. MNRF adds radiofrequency energy through the needle tips, heating the deeper layers, which gives a stronger collagen response and also helps with laxity.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Often, yes. PRP is frequently used alongside it to support healing, and peels or lasers may be used at other points in a scar-treatment plan. We will sequence it rather than do everything at once.
