What It Is

Your own growth factors, put back to work

The vampire facial is platelet-rich plasma therapy. A small amount of blood is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and that plasma is returned to your skin. Platelets carry the growth factors your body uses to repair itself, and concentrating them stimulates collagen production where it is placed.

The name is theatrical and the treatment is not. It is a slow, structural treatment: skin quality improves over weeks as collagen forms, texture smooths, and acne scarring softens. It is not a glow facial, and one session before a party is the wrong use of it.

Because the material comes from you, there is nothing foreign to react to. That makes it a sensible choice for people who want to improve skin quality without injecting a product, and it pairs naturally with microneedling or MNRF, where the channels help the plasma reach where it is needed.

Concerns

What it helps with

  • Acne scarringSoftens shallow scarring and supports healing, particularly alongside microneedling or MNRF.
  • Dull, tired skinImproves overall skin quality rather than giving a surface shine that washes off.
  • Fine linesEarly lines and crepiness, including the delicate skin under the eyes.
  • Rough textureSkin that feels uneven to the touch, smoothed as collagen rebuilds.
  • Open poresTightens the skin around enlarged pores over a course.
  • Loss of firmnessEarly slackness where the skin has thinned rather than sagged.

Not suitable if you have a bleeding or platelet disorder, active acne or a skin infection in the area, a tendency to keloid scarring, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell us if you take blood thinners, have had a recent illness, or are on isotretinoin. Blood is drawn and handled for each client individually, with single-use sterile equipment.

The Session

How it works

  1. Assessment

We look at your skin and decide whether PRP alone is enough or whether it should be combined with microneedling or MNRF for what you want changed.

  2. Blood draw

A small quantity of blood is taken from your arm, exactly as for a routine test.

  3. Processing

The sample is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. This happens while you wait, and numbing cream goes on in the meantime.

  4. Application

The plasma is delivered into the skin — injected in fine points, or applied through microneedling channels, depending on the plan for your face.

  5. Soothe and protect

Cooling, then moisturiser and sunscreen. You will leave flushed, and possibly a little swollen, which settles over the following days.

  6. The course

Packages are offered as three or six sessions, spaced weeks apart. Skin quality builds across the course rather than appearing after the first one.

Aftercare

Post-care instructions

These are the clinic’s own instructions, given after microneedling, PRP, GFC and MNRF.

  • Apply the recovery cream for five nights.
  • Do not wash your face with tap water for 24 hours. Use bottled or filtered drinking water.
  • No face wash or cleanser for one day. Water only.
  • You can ice your face, but never put ice directly on the skin — wrap it in a clean cotton cloth or tissue first.
  • Sunscreen and moisturiser are a must during the day.
  • Take proper sun protection measures. A hat and a scarf if you are going outdoors.
  • Mild peeling is possible.
  • No makeup for a few days.
  • Redness can take up to five days to settle.
  • In case of anything unusual, contact the clinic.

What to expect: flushing on the day, settling over the days that follow. Improvement in texture and firmness is gradual, because it depends on new collagen forming, and it continues for weeks after each session. Plan any event at least a week after a session, not the next day.

Questions

Vampire facial FAQs

Why is it called a vampire facial?

Because your own blood is used. It is drawn, spun to concentrate the platelets, and the plasma goes back into your skin. The name came from celebrity coverage; clinically it is simply PRP therapy for the face.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied while your blood is being processed, so the application feels like pressure and small pricks. The blood draw is the same as any routine test.

How long does a session take?

About an hour, including the blood draw, processing time and numbing.

How many sessions will I need?

Packages are offered as three or six sessions, spaced weeks apart. Three suits general skin quality; scarring and texture usually need six. We will tell you which at consultation.

How soon will I see results?

Not immediately, and that is worth knowing before you book. The first week is recovery. Real improvement in texture and firmness builds over the weeks after each session as collagen forms.

Is it safe?

The material injected comes from your own blood, so there is nothing foreign to react to. Blood is drawn and processed individually with single-use sterile equipment. Usual risks are redness, swelling, tenderness and small bruises.

Can it be combined with microneedling or MNRF?

Yes, and it often is. The channels created by needling help the plasma reach the layer where it works, and the two together give a stronger result on scarring than either alone.

Can I have it before an event?

Leave at least a week, ideally two. Redness can take up to five days to settle and makeup is off the table for a few days, so this is not a treatment for the day before.
