What It Is

Not fillers. They change quality, not contour.

Hyaluronic acid holds moisture in the skin, and your own levels fall with age, which is part of why skin becomes dry, dull and less elastic. A skin booster puts hyaluronic acid back — not in one place to build volume, as a filler does, but spread through the skin in many small deposits to hydrate it from within.

The result is a change in skin quality: better hydration, smoother texture, more light coming off the surface, and improved elasticity as collagen production is stimulated. Your face does not change shape. Nobody looks at you and sees work; they see skin that looks well.

This is the right treatment when the problem is dull, thin, tired skin, and the wrong one when the problem is a hollow cheek or a flat lip. Those need fillers. Choosing between them is most of what the consultation is for.

The Options

The boosters we use

  • HA VoliteA hyaluronic acid booster for deep hydration and smoother texture, spread through the skin in fine micro-deposits.
  • Restylane VitalA long-established hyaluronic acid booster, used to restore hydration and elasticity in skin that has thinned.
  • ProfhiloA high-concentration hyaluronic acid placed in a set pattern of points rather than spread widely. Chosen when skin needs firming as well as hydration.
  • ViscodermA hyaluronic acid booster used where finer, more superficial hydration is wanted.
  • PDRN boosterPolydeoxyribonucleotides derived from salmon DNA — the treatment the internet calls a salmon sperm facial. PDRN plays a part in cell growth and repair, and injected into the skin it stimulates collagen and elastin.
  • Exosome boosterTiny vesicles derived from stem cells, carrying growth factors and proteins that act at a cellular level. The newest of this group, and the one with the least long-term evidence behind it, which we will discuss honestly rather than sell as the future.

Not suitable if you have an active skin infection or open wounds in the area, a history of keloid scarring, a known allergy to any component, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell us about blood thinners, autoimmune conditions and any previous filler or booster you have had, including when and where.

The Session

How it works

  1. Assessment

We look at skin quality, hydration and elasticity, and establish whether a booster is what you need or whether filler, tightening or a peel would serve you better.

  2. Choosing the booster

Each product behaves differently in the skin. The choice depends on how dry or thin your skin is, how much firming it needs, and what you have had before.

  3. Numbing

Numbing cream is applied and left to work. Boosters involve many small injections rather than a few, so this makes a real difference.

  4. Injection

The product goes in as a series of small deposits across the treatment area, or in a defined pattern of points for Profhilo. It takes a few minutes once numbing has taken effect.

  5. Small bumps settle

You will see small raised bumps where the product sits, along with some redness. These flatten over the following hours to a day or two as the product disperses.

  6. The course

Most boosters are given as a short initial course and then maintained periodically. We will tell you the number of sessions your skin needs at the consultation, rather than quoting a figure that may not apply to you.

Aftercare

Post-care instructions

Mostly about leaving the area alone while the product settles.

  • Do not massage or press the treated area unless we tell you to.
  • No makeup for the rest of the day, over the injection points.
  • No steam, sauna, swimming or heavy exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Sleep on your back on the first night if the area is on your face.
  • Sunscreen daily, and keep skincare simple for 48 hours.
  • Small bumps, redness, tenderness and the occasional bruise are expected and short-lived.
  • No facials, peels or laser on the area for two weeks.
  • Anything unusual — spreading redness, severe pain, skin turning pale or dusky — call the clinic immediately.

What to expect: hydration improves within days, while the firmer, better-quality result builds over several weeks as collagen responds. Boosters are not permanent: the hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by the body, which is why maintenance sessions are part of the plan.

Questions

Skin booster FAQs

What is the difference between a skin booster and a filler?

A filler is placed in one area to add volume and change shape — a lip, a cheek, a hollow. A booster is spread through the skin in many small deposits to hydrate it and improve its quality. Same family of material, entirely different purpose.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream first, then a series of small injections. Uncomfortable rather than painful, and over quickly. Some areas, such as under the eyes, are more sensitive than others.

Will I look different straight after?

You will see small raised bumps at the injection points and some redness, and possibly a bruise or two. The bumps flatten over hours to a day or two. Plan a quiet evening rather than a dinner.

How soon will I see results?

Hydration shows within days. The firmer, more even quality takes several weeks, because that part depends on your skin producing collagen in response.

How long do they last?

Not permanently. The hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by the body, and how long that takes varies between products and between people. Boosters are maintained periodically rather than done once.

What is a PDRN booster?

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotides, derived from salmon DNA — hence the salmon sperm facial nickname online. PDRN plays a role in cell growth and repair, and injected into the skin it stimulates collagen and elastin production.

Are exosome boosters better?

They are newer and there is real interest in them, but they also have the least long-term evidence of the group. We offer them and describe them accurately. If you want the option with the longest track record, that is hyaluronic acid.

Can I have a booster before an event?

Leave at least two weeks. Bumps and bruising need time to settle, and the result you actually want takes several weeks to appear anyway.
