What It Is

It relaxes muscles. It does not fill anything.

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin, injected in small quantities into specific facial muscles to relax them temporarily. When the muscle stops pulling, the skin above it stops creasing, and the lines that come from frowning, squinting and raising your brows soften.

That is also its limit. Botox works on lines made by movement. Lines that sit there when your face is still, or hollows that have lost volume, are a job for fillers or skin boosters instead. Anyone who offers you Botox for everything is not looking closely.

It is a prescription medicine and a medical procedure, not a salon service. At MK Aesthetics it is administered by Dr. Khushal Gangwani, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and how natural the result looks depends almost entirely on where the injector places it and how much they use.

Concerns

What it helps with

  • Frown linesThe vertical lines between the brows that make you look annoyed when you are concentrating.
  • Forehead linesHorizontal lines from raising the brows. Treated carefully, so the brows still move.
  • Crow’s feetThe fan of lines at the outer corners of the eyes, deepened by smiling and squinting.
  • Bunny linesThe creases across the bridge of the nose that appear when you scrunch it.
  • A gummy smileSoftening the lift of the upper lip so less gum shows when you smile broadly.
  • Jaw clenchingRelaxing overactive jaw muscles, which can also slim a heavy, square jawline over time.

Not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular condition, or have an infection at the injection site. Tell us about every medicine you take, especially blood thinners, and about any previous reaction to botulinum toxin. We assess before we treat, and we will say no when no is the right answer.

The Session

How it works

  1. Assessment

We watch your face move — frown, raise, smile, squint — because that shows which muscles are actually creating your lines, and which ones to leave alone.

  2. Planning the dose

Units and injection points are mapped for your face, not a template. Men usually need more than women, and strong muscles need more than weak ones.

  3. Cleanse and mark

The skin is cleaned and the points are marked. Numbing cream is available, though most people find they do not need it.

  4. The injections

A series of quick injections with a very fine needle. The whole thing takes a few minutes and feels like small pinches.

  5. Straight back to your day

No bandages, nothing to hide. Small raised bumps settle within the hour. You need to stay upright for four hours afterwards, so avoid booking it right before a nap or a flight with a lie-flat seat.

  6. Review

Results start showing at about four days and are complete at fourteen. If something needs adjusting, that is the point at which it can be judged properly.

Aftercare

Post-care instructions

These are the clinic’s own instructions, given to every Botox client.

  • Do not lie down for four hours after the procedure.
  • No massaging the face for 48 hours.
  • No heavy exercise for 48 hours.
  • No steam or sauna for three days.
  • No facial for one week.
  • No makeup for 24 hours.
  • If you bruise, apply arnica gel or thrombophobe gel to the area.
  • Anything unusual — drooping, spreading weakness, lasting pain — call the clinic.

What to expect: results start showing four days after the procedure, and the full effect is seen at fourteen days. The effect typically lasts three to six months, after which the muscle gradually regains movement and lines return. Repeat treatment is a choice, not an obligation.

Questions

Botox FAQs

Will I look frozen?

Not if it is dosed properly. A frozen look comes from too much product in too many places. The aim here is that your face still moves and you simply look less tired, which is a question of units and placement rather than of the drug itself.

Does it hurt?

A series of small pinches with a very fine needle, over in a few minutes. Numbing cream is available if you would rather have it.

How soon will I see results?

Results start showing about four days after the procedure and the full effect is visible at fourteen days. Judge the result at two weeks, not at two days.

How long does it last?

Typically three to six months. Strong muscles, heavy exercise and a fast metabolism tend to shorten it. When it wears off, movement returns gradually and the lines come back as they were.

Is Botox safe?

It is a prescription medicine with decades of clinical use behind it, given in very small doses. The risks that matter come from who injects it and where. Bruising and small bumps are common and brief; asymmetry or a heavy brow is uncommon and settles as the effect wears off.

Will my lines be worse if I stop?

No. When the effect wears off the muscle simply works as it did before, and the lines return to where they would have been. They do not get worse for having been treated.

What is the difference between Botox and fillers?

Botox relaxes muscles so moving lines stop creasing. Fillers add volume to restore lost fullness or shape. Many people need one, some need both, and a consultation is where that gets decided.

Can I have it before a wedding or an event?

Yes, but plan ahead. Book at least three weeks before, so the full effect has arrived and there is room to adjust if anything needs it.
